Hi Again

If you’ve been following along on Instagram or Facebook, you haven’t missed a beat. But if you look for the blogs, it’s been a minute. I haven’t found much time or motivation over the summer to keep up with the blog. The last few months I’ve been enjoying the food instead of writing about, but as August rears it’s head, it is finally time to play catch up.

The highlights start in May when I revisited a Troy favorite, The Hill at Muza. Removed from the trendy riverfront block, The Hill at Muza is a nearly hidden polish beer garden complete with indoor and outdoor seating, a plethora of polish beers, and an irresistible selection of Euro-American fusion snacks.

On another afternoon in Troy, I dove deep into the millennial stereotype and picked up a luxurious piece of avocado toast from Superior Merchandise Company. The spring seasonal toast included sorrel pesto, sheep’s milk cheese, watermelon radish, black sea salt and edible flowers atop sourdough toast. Due the tardy nature of this post, the seasonal toast has changed, but assure you is still delicious.

In June I continued my efforts toward completing the Nine Pin Cider 26er challenge and had my first taste of ramen (that didn’t come in plastic wrapping). For years now I’ve said “I want to try this place,” on nearly every occasion I have ever driven passed Tanpopo Ramen. Don’t be deterred by the aluminum exterior, Tanpopo may be small in size, but their ramen packs big flavor!

Later in the month I returned to the Cuckoo’s Nest for a much needed brunch. Since Mother’s Day, I had been eying the soft scramble toast and it was everything I could’ve imagined. Loaded with bacon, brussels sprouts, and pimento cheese, it was hearty, more notably– incredibly craveworthy.

So that brings us to July, in which I visited the annual Troy Pig Out on a hot and humid Saturday afternoon. The Pig Out is notorious for the rib competition, but I am not one for ribs, nor am I one to wait in long lines on hot days. So I didn’t try a rib, but I did try a Famous Lunch hot dog which was long, long overdue.

Erin Eats Upstate has been a platform to spotlight local restaurants, but in July I was invited to dinner during opening night at 110 Grill in Crossgates Mall. Despite the fact that 110 Grill is a chain, Erin Eats Upstate is also a platform to feature new places so I was more than happy to check it out. A booth with a view of the kitchen, I enjoyed my bowl of pulled pork mac and cheese while a real-life food network show went on in front of me.
